Scroll down for a list of Rescue Organizations, Breed Specific Rescue Organizations, and Central New York Shelters. A number of Northeast rescues bring puppies up from overburdened Southern shelters where the puppy mill laws are not as strict and spay/neuter protocols are not as well observed.

Rescue Organizations

East Coast Adoptions is Dogs In Danger rescue, founded in order to help dogs that need homes immediately to avoid euthanasia. We consistently work with shelters that transport to us in West Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, and Arkansas where there aren't enough adopters to save these dogs in shelters. Many of the communities are very rural, and ultimately do not have the resources or people to adopt all the dogs that come into the shelter every day. These dogs are sometimes housebroken, spayed/neutered, good with dogs/cats/kids, and would have made perfect family pets. Often have puppies. 908-745-9191; sarah@eastcoastadoptions.com – Sherburne, NY

Homeward Bound Dog Rescue of NY is a not for profit volunteer organization. We were formed because we saw many young, old, happy, healthy puppies and dogs being euthanized in shelters because there was no foster space or other rescue groups with room to take them until their forever home could be found. Our focus is finding those family dogs who just need a little more time and exposure, and helping them find their way home. 518-424-1738
